The powerful combination of refined, elegant style paired with the bold colors of the wood make for a truly
original wooden pen. The Torcere Collection contains wooden pens with their own unique identity proudly
displayed. Each luxury wood pen has a distinct personality.
Rosewood refers to a collection of about a dozen woods in the genus Dalbergia with rich veining that is often
brown, red and pink with traces of purple, yellow, and orange weaved throughout. They were given their name
because of their mildly sweet and fragrant scent. Rosewoods were widely used in elaborate inlay decoration of
furniture in 18th Century Europe. Changing trading patterns that introduced rosewood to America and Europe
made a dramatic impact on early 19th Century design. Interestingly, rosewood is the preferred wood for
percussion instruments because it resonates more than most other types of wood.
Today, rosewoods grow in many places around the world including India, South America, and China. Some
species of rosewoods can become canopy trees that are upwards of 90 ft tall. Due to the high durability of this
wood and richly variegated figuring, over-harvesting has caused some species of rosewoods to be quite rare.
Consequently, many look-alike species outside of the Dalbergia genus have “rosewood” as an adjective in their
common name but are considered a poor substitute to genuine rosewood.
